Visual Think Map

Exploring creative innovative modes of visual communication of information

Replies to This Discussion

just the title and no content of what the outcome had to be e.g. 4 x 10x8 prints?

it would make me think journey. i like trying to map/capture/document the progression so i'd think

poorly presented model to exquisite model

documenting the better poses, dress, facial expressions.

makes me think larger time span,

neolithic woman to now,

gives you a whole range of clothing to map/document inbetween

i get typographic thoughts but this isn't fashion photog.

what were/are your thoughts clive? its certainly a challenging brief, where was it from?

I thought it was quite interesting. No, there were no deliverables set, just the idea of A to B! I think the idea of progression is great, the notion of a journey, from point 'A' to 'B' whatever that journey is. I think the student is interpreting it in terms of a 'relationship' – the relationship of 'A' to 'B'. That relationship is his journey during this 2 week process through mapping his emotions on a daily basis by writing 2/3 words a day based on his experiences on the project – from fear, confusion, anxiety, loss learning, sharing, to moments of joy, elation, solving the problem etc. The idea is then to look at all the words (in order) and see what sentence can be strung together. This would then be plotted on a chart of sorts with the left to right axis being 'A' to 'B' and the top to bottom axis being positive to negative. The result will in effect be a visual representation of his journey from A to B. This could even be translated into a colour graphic of sorts. The colours could then be grouped to form a basis for a working methodology of sorts for example, if it turns out that all his negative words are in reds, this could be interpreted as the first phase of a working practice, exploring the unknown, research, disection etc. If for example blues turn out to be his 'eureka' moments – this could be interpreted as his final development phase in his process and the tasks he needs to consider in this phase.

In effect, he is trying to create a visual map of an A to B. His own map for forming a personal methodology for use in his photography honours year. Its also about the idea of a relationship – in his photography, the idea of relationships are paramount, spacial, colour, textural relationships to convey a message.

So that's the idea in a nutshell. Thoughts??

I created this site basically because I have developed an extended interest in and to collect inspirational, good graphics. I try to collect examples that explore creative innovative modes of visual communication of information.

Things like maps, diagrams, info graphics, mind maps, brainstorms, sketchbooks, notebooks, flowcharts, scientific visualization, data visualizations etc. As I say they are very good resources of inspiration for various design jobs as they solve communication problems using easy to understand graphics.

Seems a mouthful but basically great graphics that look great (form) and communicate detailed info quickly and easily (function). Image Copyrights

If any of the images featured are in violation of any copyrights I sincerely apologises and would ask you get in touch asap through the community and hopefully the problem can be
resolved.

Anyone wishing to utilise these images, please try to retain as much of the detail as I have as regards to its source, creator/authors.
